He is the son of the late Etsu Nupe Umaru Sanda Ndayako and a grandson of the revered Etsu Nupe Muhammadu Ndayako. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the Federal Government College, Sokoto, from 1967 to 1971, where he completed his secondary education, acquiring a strong academic foundation.

Demonstrating a commitment to national service and leadership, he gained admission to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, where he undertook Regular Combatant Course 12. Career

Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar's career commenced with a distinguished service in the Nigerian Army. After his training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1973. His roles included serving as Adjutant of the 22 Infantry Battalion, a crucial position for operational efficiency. He commanded the 149 Infantry Battalion and later served as Brigade Major of the 9 Mechanized Infantry Brigade, where he was instrumental in tactical planning and execution. His career progressed to higher administrative roles, including Director of Personnel Services at Army Headquarters, a strategic position responsible for human resources management across the army. He also commanded the 9 Mechanized Infantry Brigade and the 16 Mechanized Infantry Brigade, overseeing large formations of troops and equipment. Towards the latter part of his military career, he distinguished himself as the Director of Army Legal Services, leveraging his legal qualifications to provide expert counsel and ensure adherence to military law and regulations. He retired honorably from the Nigerian Army in September 2003, having attained the rank of Brigadier General.
