Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu was born on March 22, 1963, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. Although born in Jos, he hails from Onicha-Ukwu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. His parents were civil servants, and he grew up in a modest household, instilling in him early lessons of hard work and resilience. Education

A significant part of this portfolio includes Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), a publicly quoted conglomerate where Elumelu serves as Chairman. Transcorp holds strategic investments in power generation (Transcorp Power), hospitality (Transcorp Hotels Plc), and oil and gas (Transcorp Energy).

Simultaneously, in 2010, he established The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), a leading philanthropy dedicated to empowering African entrepreneurs. The foundation's flagship initiative, the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, is a decade-long, $100 million commitment to identify, train, mentor, and fund 10,000 African entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries.
