Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu was born on March 29, 1952, though this date has been a subject of public debate and speculation over the years. He hails from the Yoruba ethnic group and is often associated with Lagos State, a major commercial hub in Nigeria. His early childhood education began at St. John's Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, and later at Children's Home School in Ibadan. These formative years in Nigeria's southwestern region laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. Education

Following his time at Richard Daley College, he transferred to Chicago State University, also in Illinois. At Chicago State University, he demonstrated academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting in 1979. During his time in the United States, he was exposed to Western economic principles and corporate practices, which would later influence his professional and political career. His academic achievements abroad provided him with a robust foundation in finance and management, skills he would leverage upon his return to Nigeria.

Career

Upon completing his education, Bola Tinubu embarked on a successful career in the corporate world. He worked with several prominent American companies, including Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, and Arthur Andersen, S.C., where he honed his skills as an auditor and financial consultant. In the early 1980s, he returned to Nigeria and joined Mobil Oil Nigeria, a major international oil corporation. At Mobil, he rapidly ascended through the ranks, serving as Senior Accountant, and later as Treasurer, where he managed the company's financial operations, including cash management, banking, and financial reporting. His corporate career was marked by professionalism and a deep understanding of complex financial systems.

His foray into politics began in 1992 when he was elected as a Senator representing the Lagos West Senatorial District on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). His tenure in the Senate was cut short by the military annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election and the subsequent dissolution of democratic institutions by General Sani Abacha's military regime. Tinubu became a prominent voice in the pro-democracy movement, co-founding the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), an organization dedicated to restoring democratic rule in Nigeria. His activism led to threats against his life, forcing him into exile in 1994, where he continued his advocacy against military dictatorship from abroad, primarily in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The couple has several children. Tragically, one of his sons, Jide Tinubu, passed away in 2017. Other notable children include Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, who holds the traditional title of Iyaloja General of Lagos, and Oluwaseyi Tinubu, who is also involved in business.
