Gabriel Torwua Suswam was born on November 15, 1964, in Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. Hailing from the Tiv ethnic group, one of the largest ethnic groups in Benue State and indeed Nigeria, Suswam grew up in a predominantly rural environment. His early life was characterized by exposure to the realities of an agricultural society, which deeply influenced his later political focus on rural development and agricultural transformation.
