Hope Odidika Uzodinma was born on December 12, 1958, in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He hails from a distinguished family in the region, with his parents being Chief Michael Uzodinma and Ezinne Rose Uzodinma. Growing up in Imo State, he was exposed to the social and political dynamics of Nigeria's southeastern region from an early age. His formative years were characterized by a keen interest in community development and an emerging entrepreneurial spirit, which would later define much of his professional and public life. During his tenure in the Senate, he held several crucial positions, including the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation. Following the gubernatorial election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared him to have placed fourth. However, in a landmark and highly controversial judgment delivered on January 14, 2020, the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the election of the incumbent Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, and declared Hope Uzodinma as the duly elected Governor of Imo State. The Supreme Court's decision was based on the premise that results from 388 polling units were unlawfully excluded from the final tally, and when these results were added, Uzodinma secured the majority of lawful votes. He was subsequently sworn in as Governor on January 15, 2020. In November 2023, he sought and won re-election for a second term as the Governor of Imo State, consolidating his hold on power.
