Career

After returning to Nigeria, she joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 1983, a pivotal parastatal in Nigeria's economy. She served with the NNPC for nine years, gaining significant experience in the energy sector, before voluntarily retiring in 1992. Upon leaving NNPC, Oduah ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Sea Petroleum and Gas Company Limited (SPG), an independent marketer of petroleum products. She served as the company's Chief Executive Officer, overseeing its operations and growth in a highly competitive industry. Her leadership at SPG established her as a successful businesswoman.

Her transition into politics became more pronounced with her active involvement in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2011, she played a crucial role in the presidential campaign of Goodluck Jonathan, serving as the Director of Administration and Finance of his campaign organization. Following Jonathan's victory, she was appointed to a ministerial position. On July 2, 2011, Stella Oduah was sworn in as the Minister of Aviation.
