Career

His return to public service marked a significant chapter in his career when, in 2019, he was appointed as the Commissioner of Finance for Jigawa State under the administration of then-Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar. In this critical role, Namadi was responsible for the state's fiscal policy, budget preparation and implementation, revenue generation, and overall financial health. He was widely credited for his prudent management of state resources, his efforts towards fiscal transparency, and his strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing Jigawa State's economic stability and growth. His tenure as Commissioner of Finance prepared him for higher leadership responsibilities. Building on his experience and popularity, he successfully contested the gubernatorial election in March 2023, emerging as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following his victory, Malam Umar Namadi was sworn in as the Executive Governor of Jigawa State on May 29, 2023.
