Umo Bassey Eno was born on April 24, 1964, in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. While born in Ikot Ekpene, his ancestral roots trace back to Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He hails from a humble background, which significantly influenced his entrepreneurial drive and commitment to community development. He is the founder and Managing Director of Royalty Hotels and Recreations Limited, a business he meticulously built from the ground up, establishing a chain of hotels that became well-regarded within Akwa Ibom State and beyond. Beyond Royalty Hotels, he also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Hensek Integrated Services, a company with interests in various sectors. His foray into public service began with his appointment as the Executive Director for Agriculture and Food Security at the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP). This role allowed him to leverage his business expertise for public good. His commitment to public service deepened when he was appointed by the then-Governor Udom Emmanuel as the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in Akwa Ibom State. His performance as commissioner positioned him as a strong contender for the governorship. In 2022, he declared his intention to run for governor of Akwa Ibom State under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Despite initial challenges and a highly competitive primary election, he emerged as the PDP gubernatorial candidate. His campaign focused on continuity, economic development, and improving the welfare of the citizenry. On March 18, 2023, Umo Eno was overwhelmingly elected as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, a testament to his growing popularity and the confidence placed in his leadership by the people of the state. He officially assumed office on May 29, 2023.
