Early Life and Background

Yahaya Adoza Bello was born on June 18, 1975, in Okene, Kogi State, Nigeria, into the family of Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi and Hawa Bello. He is the youngest of six children. His early life was spent in his hometown of Okene, where he began his foundational education. Bello hails from the Igbira ethnic group, a significant demographic in Kogi State. Education

Bello's educational journey commenced at the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Primary School, Agassa, Okene, where he enrolled in 1984 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1989. Following his primary education, he proceeded to Agassa Community Secondary School, Oken, completing his junior secondary education there in 1994. He subsequently attended Government Secondary School, Suleja, Niger State, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) in 1999. Although some records indicate a completion in 1994 for secondary, further consistent records point to 1999 for his SSCE. He then pursued higher education, initially earning a Diploma in Accounting from Kaduna State Polytechnic in 1999. Subsequently, he gained admission to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, one of Nigeria's premier institutions, where he successfully obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting in 2004. Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, Yahaya Bello furthered his academic pursuits at the same university, earning a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) in 2008. Career

Yahaya Bello's professional career began with a stint at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), where he served as a Revenue Officer I from 2001. This role provided him with insights into public finance and resource allocation at a national level. After his public service tenure at RMAFC, Bello transitioned into the private sector, where he established himself as a successful entrepreneur and investor. He held various executive positions and was the Chief Executive Officer of FairPlus International Ltd., a company with interests in diverse sectors. He also managed several family businesses, gaining extensive experience in corporate governance, financial management, and strategic planning. His foray into politics began to take shape within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He contested for the APC governorship primary election in Kogi State in 2015, emerging as the runner-up to Prince Abubakar Audu. However, a significant political twist occurred when Prince Abubakar Audu, who was leading in the gubernatorial election, passed away suddenly before the conclusion of the polls. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive and mandated the APC to nominate a replacement candidate. Following legal interpretations and party directives, Yahaya Bello was chosen by the APC to inherit Audu's votes and continue the election process. He was subsequently declared the winner and was sworn in as the 4th Executive Governor of Kogi State on January 27, 2016, at the age of 40, making him the youngest governor in Nigeria at that time. He successfully sought re-election in November 2019, securing a second term in office, which concluded on January 27, 2024. In 2022, he also made a bid for the APC presidential ticket for the 2023 general elections but ultimately lost to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
